COMMITTEE CHAIR -- Sylvia Smith
The Music & Arts committee is tasked with identifying, organizing and managing performing and visual arts programs to provide enrichment and entertainment opportunities for the LACC member and guest community. A summer “bandshell program”, funded through tax-deductible contributions to the Lake Almanor Community Foundation, provides live, family oriented musical entertainment for the ten Sunday evenings from the July 4th weekend through the September Labor Day weekend. Committee members also oversee the acquisition and placement of a permanent collection of original art work for display at the LACC Clubhouse. SPECIFIC ROLE STATEMENT MUSIC & ARTS COMMITTEE
Purpose
In view of the LACC rule that paid employees of LACC may not serve as committee chairs, it is necessary for the Board to appoint a chair from the general membership. The function of the committee chair is in no way intended to alter, amend or supersede the role of the Music and Arts Director. The Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Director on matters concerning policies and objectives for music and arts programs and presentations. It shall endeavor to ensure the orderly continuation of the Music & Arts Program over the years.
Responsibilities
To assist the Director in managing the annual summer Bandshell Performance Season, the Art in the Clubhouse Program and such other entertainment programs as may be deemed practical throughout the year. To acquire reasonable knowledge of LACC Rules and Regulations.
Specific Functions
1. To follow the guidelines in the 'Overall Role Statement' for LACC Committees.
2. To represent the LACC membership-at-large in identifying appropriate music and arts programs and activities for presentation to LACC members and guests.
3. To follow guidelines and procedures as published in the 'LACC Music & Arts Committee Operating Handbook.'
4. To assist the Director in organizing and managing a 'Summer Bandshell Season' providing live, family oriented musical entertainment for the Ten Sunday evenings from July 4th weekend through Labor Day weekend.
5. To assist in overseeing the acquisition of a permanent art collection of original artwork to be hung in the LACC Clubhouse and arrange the rotation of art displays.
6. To arrange for the safekeeping and routine inventory of any assets overseen by the committee (including, but not limited to, the permanent art collection, sound equipment, musical instruments, etc.)
7. To organize and manage such other music and art functions as are deemed practical during the fall, winter and spring months. These may include, but are not limited to, sponsoring of recitals or lectures for which tickets are sold for the purpose of fund raising.
8. To recommend to the Director, General Manager and the Board of Directors any needed improvements to entertainment facilities that will require capital expenditures.
9. To record minutes of each meeting and provide timely copies to the Director, each committee member, and the General Manager, who will supply copies to the Board of Directors.
Organization
1. The current Board President shall appoint a Committee· Chairperson who is an LACC member in good standing, and who shall serve at the pleasure of the Board President. The chair shall be responsible for determining the composition of the committee, managing all the stated functions of the committee, and reporting at all meetings of the LACC Board of Directors.
2. The Committee shall consist of not less than two voting members plus the Chairperson. Committee members may be LACC members in good standing or LACC employees. LACC employees may not vote on any committee whose areas of responsibility concerns the department in which the employee works.
3. The Board President, at his/her discretion, shall appoint a member of the LACC Board of Directors to serve as liaison to the Committee.
4. The Director and General Manager, or his/her representative, should be represented at all Committee meetings.
NOTE: The Committee has no authority to instruct or direct LACC personnel.
